Special facilities for campers are not provided on South Uist, although there is a campsite on Benbecula and another on North Uist. On the other hand, wild camping is accepted on the machair areas to the west and also at some road ends. Clearly, if land looks like it is owned by someone, permission to camp should always be sought.
The people of South Uist are generally friendly and are generous by nature and do appreciate being asked. I have a motor home myself and have had absolutely no problem, so long as it doesn’t look like you are there for a long stay. Buy your goods locally and show courtesy and campers will not receive a bad name.
Toilet emptying facilities and water are available at the ferry terminal at the south of Eriskay. The showers and public toilets are open during daylight hours and are well kept.
Kilbride Campsite is at Cille Bhrìghde on the south shore of the Outer Hebrides island of South Uist, by a beach of white shell sands and the aquamarine seas of the Sound of Barra. Read moreAddress:Cille Bhrìghde, Isle of South Uist. Outer Hebrides. HS8 5TT
